Thousands of revellers hit their local streets to let their hair down in style and in safety after Derbyshire company Securiscape installed their IWA-14 rated SecuriPod temporary HVM street security barriers for two huge outdoor parties.
For the first time in the event’s history, the organisers of Hackney Carnival took delivery of 11 SecuriPod HVM barriers in order to close off a key road from traffic, allowing the 100,000 people who attended the event to walk to the centre of the celebrations in peace.
Meanwhile, more than 100 miles away in Derby, Securiscape installed six of the SecuriPod HVM devices across a road behind the stage at the Derbyshire LGBT+ Pride event, which took place in the centre of Derby, creating a barrier that could not be breached by any vehicle intent on spoiling the fun.
Both events took place for one day only, which meant that the SecuriPods had to be installed and removed quickly in order to ensure that the roads were not impassable for longer than was necessary.
It took a matter of minutes to install both sets of SecuriPods. – a road was closed off in Hackney in just under half an hour – and staff from Securiscape were on hand in case any of the security barriers had to be moved in order to create access for emergency vehicles.
Thankfully, this was not needed at either event, meaning the only people who passed between each SecuriPod HVM device were pedestrians or, in the case of Hackney, a mounted police officer.
This year we have experienced a significant increase in orders for SecuriPods, which are capable of bringing a 7.5 tonne truck to a controlled stop, and we were delighted and proud that the organisers in both Hackney and Derby – who have installed SecuriPods for the past two years - turned to us to protect their events.
Mark Stone, managing director of Securiscape, said: “Security barriers have become familiar fixtures at outdoor events now but few, if any, of the temporary HVM security solutions available on the market are as flexible, economical or as straightforward to fit as our IWA 14 SecuriPods.
“We were able to show in both Derby and Hackney how they can be fitted with the minimum of fuss on schedule, while in Hackney they even became part of the party, with people sitting on them or standing on them to take selfies, demonstrating that it’s possible for security barriers to become an accepted sight at outdoor events without taking the fun out of the occasion.”
