Derby boxer Sandy Ryan, who put the city on the map by winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Australia, will be the special guest in a charity bowling event to be held at Tenpin Derby.
Tenpin, at Foresters Leisure Park, in Osmaston Park Road, has recently completed an extensive refurbishment programme which includes the installation of state-of-the-art bowling machines to provide greater reliability.
And Sandy, whose brother Dave ‘Rocky’ Ryan is a former Commonwealth champion, too, will be hoping to raise as much money as she can for Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre in Skegness this Sunday (April 29).
She will be joined by Derby County mascots Rammie and Ewie as two teams go head-to-head in what promises to be a fierce but fun battle for the charity – supported by the Mayor of Derby - which provides Derbyshire children having troubles in their home lives with a holiday in Skegness.
Tenpin will donate £10 for every strike on the night with a minimum donation of £500.
Following a hugely successful relaunch back in March, Tenpin Derby are keen to support more community projects.
The bowling centre, which was officially opened by Brian Clough in the late 1980s, was acquired by Tenpin in 2003 when the company was initially formed.
They spent £270,000 on a massive refurbishment back in March and held a VIP event to celebrate, with former Derby County player and BBC Radio Derby commentator Craig Ramage one of Tenpin’s special guests.
General manager Donna Walsh said: “The whole building feels fresh, clean and just like new. There’s something for every member of the family and the free car park means that we are easily accessible too.”
The business has also fully refurbished the adjoining laser game Sector 7 for families to enjoy. There are new pool tables, table tennis tables and arcade games installed in the centre, too.
Tenpin belongs to the Ten Entertainment Group which is the second largest ten-pin bowling operator in the UK with a total of 42 sites all trading under the Tenpin brand.
Supporters are welcome at Tenpin Derby from 6pm onwards. Tenpin Derby offer three games of bowling on a Sunday from just £7. Booking, though, is advised by visiting www.tenpin.co.uk/sunday-sessions.
Donations to the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre can be made via their Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/dchc
